GLOBAL HUNGER CRISIS: MILLIONS OF CHILDREN FACE ACUTE MALNUTRITION

As conflicts escalate and the climate crisis deepens, the threat of hunger devastates millions of lives across dozens of countries.

7 NOV 2025GLOBAL

The world is facing a catastrophic hunger crisis unlike anything we've seen in decades. Conflicts are escalating, the climate crisis is deepening, and millions of children are at risk of starvation.

A Perfect Storm

Multiple factors are converging to create the perfect storm: ongoing conflicts in Ukraine, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Sudan are disrupting food supplies and displacing millions. Meanwhile, climate change is causing devastating droughts and floods that destroy crops and livelihoods.

Children Are Dying

The most devastating impact is on children. Every minute, a child dies from hunger-related causes. That's more than 1,400 children every day. The majority of these deaths are preventable with the right interventions.

Our Response

Save the Children is on the ground in more than 40 countries, delivering life-saving food assistance to families in need. We provide:

  • Emergency food supplies and therapeutic food for malnourished children
  • Cash assistance to help families buy food
  • Nutrition screening and treatment for children under five
  • Clean water and sanitation to prevent waterborne diseases
  • Support for farmers to restart food production

What Needs to Happen

We need urgent funding from the international community to scale up our response. Without more resources, more children will die. The window to act is closing fast.

"I've never seen anything like this. Children are so weak they can't even cry anymore."

– Save the Children worker in Somalia
