WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY: CELEBRATING PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES
On World Children's Day, we reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to protect children's rights.
November 20th marks World Children's Day - a day to celebrate the progress we've made in protecting children's rights and to recommit to ensuring every child has the opportunity to survive, learn, and be protected.
A Day to Celebrate
World Children's Day is more than just a celebration - it's a reminder of our collective responsibility to children everywhere. It's a day to:
- Celebrate the achievements in child rights over the past decades
- Raise awareness about the challenges still facing children
- Inspire action to improve children's lives
- Amplify children's voices and involve them in decision-making
- Fundraise for organizations working to protect children
Progress We've Made
Thanks to the work of organizations like Save the Children and governments around the world, significant progress has been made:
- Child mortality has halved since 1990
- More children than ever are in school
- Child labor has declined significantly
- More children have access to clean water
- Vaccination rates have increased dramatically
The Work That Remains
Despite this progress, far too many children still face challenges:
- 428 million children live in extreme poverty
- 160 million children are in child labor
- Millions of children are displaced by conflict
- Climate change threatens children's futures
- Every 5 minutes, a child dies from violence
Our Commitment
On this World Children's Day, Save the Children reaffirms our commitment to every child. We believe that every child deserves:
- The chance to survive and thrive
- Access to quality education
- Protection from harm and exploitation
- The opportunity to have their voice heard
- A childhood full of hope and possibility
